Immunosuppressant Drug in Treating Mesothelioma
Recently researchers find out that Sirolimus, an immunosuppressant drug, can help in treating mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that is believes to be cause by a long term exposure to asbestos material. This rare form of cancer is deadly and usually cannot be diagnosed until its late stage.
Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusettes Researchers acclaimed that they discovered a good effect of this drug, sirolimus, together with cisplatin than cisplatin alone. According to the researchers, this drug enhances the cytotoxicity of cisplatin in malignant pleural mesothelioma lines through the mammalian target of rapamycin pathway. Thus, these results provide a strong basis for clinical evaluation of sirolimus and cisplatin chemotherapy in treating MPM, Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma.
